This week… PLANET ARGON will be making a series of announcements. The last time that we did this we found ourselves with a few new employees. What will be happening this week?
...the rumors in #caboose
... are likely to be true
.
In other news… Jeremy had to install MySQL on his PowerBook last week...
...the things you do for clients. ;-)
Have a great week!

I just saw this on IRC…
<rend> i dont remeber things being this hot since 99
The context of our conversation?
Ruby on Rails development in 2006.
Is the market really that hot right now? I know that we’re pretty busy and we’ll be announcing (yet) another amazing employee to our Rails development and consulting team this week… but just how hot is it out there?
I am hearing rumors of too many clients and too much work. Is this more fluff... or is this the real stuff?
I’d love to hear some of your stories! I promise to tell mine… :-)
New office coming soon!

Allison and I signed our lease on a new office space for the PLANET ARGON HQ about 3 hours ago. We’ll be moving across the river into downtown Portland, Oregon. :-)
We’ll be:- 4.5 blocks from Powell’s Technical Bookstore
- 1 block from BackSpace
- 1 block from JustBeComplex (hosting customer of ours!)
I could go on and on… :-)
...time to start packing boxes and prepare for the move. We’ll be at NW 5th & Couch.

First of all… wow, I got a lot of responses.
I just sent the invites to the people that I selected… think I selected 7 out of the 46 people that responded.
:-)
I'd like to thank the academy...

WOW! The Rails community is awesome. Last week, I finally got a chance to get a web site up for The Argon Express and the response has been phenomenal. We have people from Canada, California, North Dakota, Washington, and Idaho… all interested in joining us in Portland, Oregon… or hoping the train somewhere in between here and Chicago.
There are currently about 25 people involved in the project!
A few logistical problems have come up… that we’re working on.
- Seems Amtrak doesn’t have as many outlets as we’d like… so we might have to get Rooms so we can have charging stations for our laptop batteries! heh
- How many geeks can fit on a train… and will they kick us off?
- Does Wifi work through train cars very well? (likely going to setup our own private wifi lan)
- Who is bringing the shuttle server for hosting a SVN repository and webserver for playing with?
- Will RailsConf give us a special discount as a group. ANSWER: YES We got a discount! ;-)
- Will we trip the circuits on Amtrak if we run power stips and extension cords? heh
- Can we find sponsors to help cover the costs for these recharging station rooms? (gets expensive for private rooms)
... if you’re interested in giving us some good ideas… and even if you can’t join us on the trip…but want to help promote it and plan it, please contact me via the email link on theargonexpress.com to join the basecamp project. :-)
UPDATES- The PA team is signed up for RailsConf!
:-D
