Another Brick in the Wall
Today is my 26th birthday!
Today I am getting our new Lead Systems Administrator, David Gibbons, up to speed with how we run our hosting servers. Expect to hear more from him in the near future. He’s jumping in and going to help take some of the hosting responsibility off of my lap as I am spending more of my time working with clients and our developers.
December is a huge month for PLANET ARGON and we have lots of fun things to announce over the next few weeks. David should have a headshot on our about page in the next few days. You can spot him in our IRC channel as dgibbons. Stop by and introduce yourself to him! I’ve known David for about 3 years and it’s great to have him join the team!
Today I am also celebrating that I got engaged last night. My lovely girlfriend took me out for dinner last night and proposed to me!
Today I turn 26 and it looks like the next year is going to be pretty exciting… :-D

(more) Migrating from MySQL to PostgreSQL
Christopher Kings-Lynne is getting ready to release 1.0 of his cool project on PgFoundry called, MySQL Compatibility Functions.
What does this provide?
“A reimplemenation of as many MySQL functions as possible in PostgreSQL, as an aid to porting.”
Basically… a bunch of pg/sql functions… to account for all those mysql functions that you all love so much. :-)
For those who feel like they are stuck with MySQL… check this out.

Portland a hub for Open Source?
I saw the following article posted on O’Reilly Radar.
Oregon city builds a reputation as a hub for software revolution
We have tons of Open Source stuff in this town… from OSCON… OSL to OSDL (where Linus himself works)... to tons of local user groups. Starting a business in Portland, Oregon that focuses on Open Source technology is so common place that it’d be nuts to even attempt to list all the companies that I am aware of.
PLANET ARGON was started in Portland, Oregon and as we are slowly moving our way into other regions of the country with some of our extended developers, we are so excited to be part of the Portland scene.
We’re looking forward to meeting so many of you next summer at OSCON 2006!
